Life On The Beach
Of course, my favorite part of island life is the beach. Here are some photos from my time spent on Scotch Beach during my trip to Manisses. You can click to enlarge for a better look.
My wife is from Long Island (Bayshore), and I grew up in Southern California. We both agree that there's something about growing up with access to the beach that influences a person. Maybe it's the access to natural beauty, or the vastness that puts things into perspective, or just regular family fun, but the beach seems to improve a person. Your pictures are lovely. The beaches pictured are less crowded than I expected. What was the water temperature? Ours hovers in the mid-60's during the summer.
Oh Dee how beautiful! It would be SO hard to leave that beach. I much prefer beaches to the lake we go to but I will have to content myself with the gift I have - still there is nothing that compares to your beach!
Deedee, the photos are just fabulous, they make me feel as if I was really there too, smelling the salt water, feeling the warm breezes, the sound of the waves coming in, the sand beneath my feet. Can you tell that I love the beach too!! It is my favorite place to be in all the world, and I miss it when i don't get a chance to spend at least one day there each summer. I have to agree with Don above, growing up with access to a beach does influence a person. I have lived away from a beach for almost 30 years, but still miss it, and long for it when I am away from it too long. and it DOES improve a person. That was aptly put, Don. Thanks for sharing such fab pictures with us. I could sit here all day long and just look at them, getting the feel of the place. hugs, Debby
I'm sitting in my Son's flat in Glasgow. I can't see the sea! Argh. But I have your photos to remind me how enlivening and recharging it is. Beautiful.
Even though it was a holiday weekend and the beaches on the island were much more crowded than they usually are, there is still so much room. This is the longest stretch of sandy beach on the island and it goes for miles. You still get the sense that it's all yours. The water temps were in the high sixties, but once you get in, it really feels warm. I love it so much, that it is very hard to leave!
Love the one of the little girl on the sand looking out to sea. Really atmospheric. Says all there is to say about the beach in one photo.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Dee. :) All of a sudden I want to be near the sea!
